What is Apple Pay?

Apple Pay is the new, easy and secure way to pay using an eligible Ulster debit, Visa or Mastercard credit cards and an Apple device.
 

  • Make contactless payments in shops
  • Pay with a single touch within apps
  • Use Apple Pay to make online purchases

There is no set limit for how much can be spent using Apple Pay, however retailers may apply contactless limits. Some retailers however may accept Apple Pay transactions for larger amounts.

Can I use Apple Pay?

What do I need?

To use Apple Pay in stores, within apps and on the web using Safari you will need either:

  • iPhone 6 or above
  • iPhone 5 or above paired with Apple Watch
  • iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad and iPad mini models with Touch ID or Face ID
  • Apple Watch Series 1 and 2 and later
  • Mac with Touch ID

Apple Pay is available for all personal customers with eligible Ulster Bank Northern Ireland debit, Visa credit and MasterCard credit cards.

Setting up Apple Pay


If you have the  app, and use iPhone 6 or above:

  1. Log in to the app, making sure you have the latest version downloaded
  2. On iPhone go to ‘Profile’ > ‘Manage my card’ > Tap the ‘Add to Wallet’ button and follow the on-screen instructions

    If you have an Apple Watch linked to your phone, you will be able to select the option on-screen to add the card to your Apple Watch.

    Once complete, your card will be available for use within the Apple Wallet.

Another way to add your card:

This step will change depending on which model of Apple device you are using

  1. On iPhone open Wallet and tap the 'Plus' icon in the upper-right corner.

    On iPad go to 'Settings' > 'Wallet' > 'Apple Pay' > 'Add Card'

    For Apple Watch, go to the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and tap 'Wallet & Apple Pay' > 'Add Card'

    For a Mac with Touch ID go to ‘System Preferences’ > ‘Wallet & Apple Pay’ > ‘Add Card’
  2. If you have a Ulster Bank credit or debit card registered with iTunes, the details will be retrieved from iTunes. You can proceed to add this card, or you can choose to add a new card.
  3. Ulster Bank will verify your information and may ask for more information. Once you have this simply go back to Wallet and tap your card.

Pay securely with Apple Pay

Apple Pay is a secure way to pay, you authorise each purchase with Touch ID, Face ID or your passcode.

 

Your card number and identity aren’t shared with the retailer, and your actual card numbers aren’t stored on your device or on Apple servers.

What if your device is lost or stolen?

If your device is lost or stolen, you can go to iCloud.com/find or call our dedicated centre to suspend or permanently remove the ability to pay from that device with Apple Pay.

 

No further transactions can take place using Apple Pay, but you will still be able to use your cards as usual in shops, online and at cash machines.
